Members and supporters gather for lunch at the Library's Summer Fair. MEMBERSHIP & SUPPORT Registered charity No. 309250 membership fee: £25 per year The Morrab Library is a place for exploring, discovering, and learning. Most important, it's a place for everyone. The
Library is a registered charity that relies on the support of
individuals, companies and other bodies to help ensure that the
Library is here for future generations to enjoy. For almost 200
years the Library has been the home of a wonderful collection of books
that the people of Cornwall and visitors from around the world have had
the joy of reading. Hundreds of students have found both the books and
the place of great benefit whilst studying for exams. Researchers have
found a place of peace stocked with 40,000 books on all sorts of
subjects and this is why we have over 30 published writers as members at
the present time. You can support the Library in any one – or all! – of the following ways:
We would welcome any
support you can give. What's
the procedure for joining? Procedure
is hardly the word. You pay your subscription and that's it. Among
independent libraries our subscription is about the lowest, and
wonderful value – roughly the cost of one hardback book per year.
Subscriptions run from 1st January to 31st December, but anyone can join
at any time and the first subscription is reduced for those who join
after 30th June. If
you hardly know the Morrab, or don't know it at all, please come in and
ask for a guided tour. The Librarian or any committee member will be
glad to show you round. I know you will be interested but, more than
that, I hope you will like it so much that you will
want the Morrab to be your library. Joining
made easy... If
you are interested and live in the Penwith / Kerrier area then please
call in to the Morrab and see for yourself. If you then want to join,
you just pay the Librarian the subscription appropriate to the time of
year. She will make the necessary record and give you a New Member's
Pack. Or
easier still... If
you want to join at once then please print off and fill in the
form
and send it together with a cheque made payable to The Morrab Library,
to The Librarian, Morrab Library, Morrab Gardens, Penzance. To
find out what subscription applies please ring the Librarian on 01736
364474. Donating
books and materials. There
are a number of ways you can help the library.
The
second is by making a specific gift or purchasing a book voucher. Again
the purchased book will have a label inserted as above. The
third way that you can help is by making gifts of materials in good
condition, including books, paperbacks, recordings, and magazines. These
gifts may be added to the collection, or may be made available for sale.
Proceeds from book sales are used in a wide variety of ways, most
frequently for replacing the bindings of old books or the purchase of
new materials. Donors need to arrange for delivery of gift materials,
and such donations may be made to the Library during opening hours, see
home page for details. Some items are not appropriate for addition to
library collections and are difficult to sell. For these reasons, we ask
that you do not bring newspapers, catalogues, or journals; textbooks
published before 1995; books that are broken, water-damaged, badly
soiled, yellowed, or crumbling; or those with extensive underlining or
highlighting. It in doubt it is always best to check with the
librarian on 01736 364474. Attending
a special event. During
the course of the year the Library puts on a number of special events to
raise money. You will find these listed on this site under ( surprise
surprise ) Special Events. We hope that you will come along and give
your support whilst at the same time having an enjoyable time. Volunteering
your time. In
any charitable organisation volunteers are always welcome, and the
Morrab Library is no different. Our volunteers do all kinds of things
from helping to catalogue the stock of books to helping at fund raising
events. Volunteering also gives you the chance to learn new skills. We
recently held a bookbinding course for some of our volunteers. If
you would like to join our group of volunteers, then please speak to
Annabelle Read, our Librarian. Making
a financial gift.
Although many people typically think of charitable donations as contributions of cash there are tax-saving methods available that help support the Library – either through an immediate contribution or through a planned gift. These include donating securities, personal property, real estate, life-insurance policies or a simple donation. To find out more about any of these tax-saving methods click Here. Please remember to consult with your own accountant and/or Solicitor to assess the implications of a donation on your individual tax status.
