Penwith Local History Group

 

The AIMS of the Group are:-

  • To encourage and sustain public interest in the history of Penwith

  • To provide mutual support and encouragement to members in their individual research projects, whether related to Penwith or of wider historical interest

  • To work as a group on specific research projects, with the aim of publication to an academic standard

  • To encourage the strong link with the Morrab Library, supporting the Library in its aims and activities.

The ORGANISATION of the Group is informal, with a Chair, Treasurer and Secretary elected as and when required. There is no subscription but members attending meetings share the small expenses incurred for hire of room, refreshments etc.

The ACTIVITIES of the Group include:-

  • Regular meetings to review and discuss work in hand. These are normally held at the Morrab Library.

  • Arranging discussion/training sessions to widen members' research skills and techniques as requested.

  • Making group visits or inviting speakers to places/topics relevant to the history of Penwith, whether in detail or to provide a wider historical background.

  • Maintaining a co-operative relationship with other groups such as the RIC, CFHS, CALH, CAS etc

The Group's current publication,

"WEST PENWITH IN THE 20th CENTURY,"

published in 2007, is available from the Morrab Library

and bookshops in Penzance, St. Ives and Truro.

The price is £12.95.
